Unorthodox combos that seem weird but turn out really cool and synergized due to less obvious mechanics do exist (syndicate promethean, for example), but I don't think there's that many of them.Age of Wonders 4 is a turn-based civilization builder, utilizing a hex grid, resources, and stacks of units for laying waste to other civilizations. "Every ST having something to offer to each race" is technically true on some level, but it often falls more into the spectrum of theorycrafting and you'll most likely be more than fine with just powering through with your racial core. This isn't necessarily bad, but if you want to always have a "natural flow" between your race and st then I'm afraid it ain't happening. Some will synergize, some won't but can be strong on their own, while others don't really offer much. Planetfall, however, is strongly focused on races and there's no real consistency with what the different secret techs will do for them. Where a faction lacks a weapon specialization for any given secret tech's main damage, there will usually be either something the faction offers the secret tech units that gives them unique potential, or vice-versa.ĪoW3 offered various degrees of synergy between races and classes through things like governance perks, damage channels or spells/abilities, but, pretty much always, your class formed and determined the backbone of your army. It could be interesting to boost the Vanguard melee capability

I think I would enjoy try whatever and make it work.įor example I see that Xenoplague doesn't work well with most faction, so I think I'll try that ST and I will take a random faction to play it. So you can understand my confusion about using mixed units.Īll in all, I think I dislike having factions tied to certain ST.

I tried using more advanced ST units in that run, but I felt like it was kind of a waste.Īfter that I tried Dvar-Promethean and I used basically only ST units and it worked (I forced myself to try ST units) I then did a Amazon-Voidtech and I ended up doing the same. I was doing a Vanguard-Promethean and I ended up in using FT units and only the first ST unit if there is a specific combo that you have questions about, i'm sure this forum will be happy to give you lots of pointers for possible strategies you could employ. leaning all in on race or ST or finding some kind of good balance between the two are all viable, you just have to have a decent plan for how you will do so. Most race/ST combos have strategies that make use of the ST units as well as strategies that don't. this is what is commonly known as "playing the game" Originally posted by NINJEW:you're expected to look at the units and what they do and make decisions on whether or not the value they give you is worth paying the costs to include them in your army.
